The president of Ramapo College struck a student who sustained non-fatal injuries outside the college campus in Mahwah Friday night, police said.
Dr. Peter Mercer was approaching the intersection of Magnolia Road and Ramapo Valley Road at 5:59 p.m. when he struck 20-year-old Kevin Murphy who was on the crosswalk several feet from the side of the roadway, according to a copy of the police report obtained by The Record.
A witness at the scene said Mercer had the green light and Murphy was nearly across the road before getting struck, according to the report.
Another witness said he saw Murphy get struck but did not notice the traffic signal.
